OHIO TECHNICAL COLLEGE TO DISPLAY SUZUKI MARINE VEHICLE
AT PITTSBURGH WORLD OF WHEELS JAN. 27-29, 2012
CLEVELAND, Ohio - Ohio Technical College will display its custom Suzuki Marine Project Vehicle at the annual World of Wheels event, Jan. 27-29, 2012, at the David Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, Pa.
|
The Suzuki Marine Vehicle is a modified 2010 Suzuki Grand Vitara built by students in OTC's Automotive, Auto-Diesel, Classic Car Restoration, Collision Repair, and Custom Paint and Graphics programs. The project began last year when American Suzuki Motor Corporation was in search of a way to uniquely promote their marine division. Students converted the 4-door SUV into a 2-door marine vehicle, with the roof removed to create a sundeck in the back and new rear seats constructed from wood, sheet metal and fiberglass.
In addition to the Suzuki, Ohio Technical College will host the OTC-Edelbrock Carburetor Challenge during the event - a timed competition where high school teams will disassemble an Edelbrock carburetor, have the piece inspected by OTC staff, and then properly re-assemble the carburetor. There will also be a written test on the carburetors, which will factor into the total time. Each member of the 1st place team will receive a $5,000 scholarship to attend OTC or its sister school the PowerSport Institute; 2nd place team members will each receive $4,000 scholarships; the 3rd place team members will each receive $3,000 scholarships; and all other participants will receive a $1,500 scholarship.
OTC will also participate in the show's Student Career Day event, addressing high school students interested in pursuing careers in the automotive technical industry. Students who attend the Career Day presentation will have a chance to win one of 10 scholarships valued at $1,000 each to attend OTC. .
